Puttur, now a rapidly growing town owes a great deal to Msgr. Antony Patrao for his painstaking efforts in providing education to the people of the area. He established several educational institutions – primary schools, high schools and a college. St. Philomena College came into being in 1958.
The College has a three dimensional goal : Personal, Social and Academic Dimensions.
Personal Dimension: The integrated development of personality of the students is the basic aim of the College. Young men and women with sound knowledge and strong character constitute the cream of the society. People with unparalleled integrity are required in nation building activities. Therefore, quality education inculcating values and leadership training incorporating a national spirit and civic consciousness assumes great significance in our scheme of things along with scholarly development.
Social Dimension: Human beings make society. Therefore, the College aims at making constant effort to educate the students on various social problems that weaken the social fabric. Students are encouraged to take up various programmes of social service in order to cement their bond with the society. The College believes that social commitment will make them responsive citizens.
Academic Dimension: The College has set high academic standards for itself. It aims at academic excellence resulting in undiluted commitment to society. The students of this institution excel in curricular and co-curricular activities.
