  Activites and Associations

 

National Cadet Corps (NCC) : Unity and discipline is the motto of NCC. The College NCC Army wing is affiliated to 19 Karnataka Battalion, Madikeri. Regular parades are conducted once a week. The College has an armory with sixty seven 303 rifles and one Light Machine Gun. Regular practice is given to cadets on how to handle and operate a weapon. Adventure activities - trekking, mountaineering, hiking, cycling etc. are conducted. Cadets are trained to take up 'B' and 'C' certificate examinations. Emphasis is given to discipline and personality development.

National Service Scheme : The College has a NSS unit to which First year Degree students are enrolled as volunteers. The volunteers are trained in Social Service and Individual development. The Annual special camp organised away from the Campus will focus on the values of manual labour, mutual tolerance and harmonious living. The ideals of the NSS are imparted to the volunteers in the orientation session.

Students' Council : A council of, by and for the Students is formed every year which has the representatives of the students. It co-operates with the college administration in the smooth conduct of the academic, co-curricular and the extra curricular activities.

Rovers  and Rangers : To facilitate the students join the scout movement the college has Rovers & Rangers units. Importance is given to inculcate among the youngsters the values of good health,  co-operation and social service. Service of the Rovers Rangers is availed by the society

Remedial Coaching: Remedial coaching classes are conducted for the benefit of the slow learners. The members of the teaching staff help out the academically challenged students by means of additional classes.

Value Education : Through value based education the college aims at making the students better citizens. The healthy practices of the college with emphasis on discipline, punctuality, cordiality and mutual respect will make the students better human beings. Value education classes are conducted often.

Wall Board Magazines : Students are encouraged to improve their writing, drawing and painting skills. The literary work, drawings and paintings of the students are displayed in "Philovani" and "Antharanga" - the two wall board magazines of the college. 'Philodarphana' is the Monthly News Bulletin of the College. Students can also write on various topics of their subjects of study and their articles are displayed on the wall board magazine of the Subject Department.

Science Forum : The Science Forum arranges programmes to promote scientific temperament among the youngsters. The Forum is a unit of "Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishath". Celebrities drawn from the field of Science are invited as resource persons with whom our students interact.
Kannada Sangha : The College Kannada Sangha has been active in encouraging the students in their literary pursuits. It conducts various programmes and competitions for the benefit of the students and the public.

 

Fine Arts Association : This association is involved in identifying the singing, dancing and acting talents of our students. It conducts cultural programmes and variety programmes. It also organizes training programmes in Fine Arts.

Debate Club : The Debating Club brings students of differing opinions on subject to a common platform. Topics of general interest are discussed and the students can air their views convincingly. It gives an opportunity for the students to develop their oratorial skill. The club also organizes training programmes in public speaking.

Computer Club : The Computer Club arranges awareness programmes, Seminars, Workshops & exhibitions related to information technology which will be of great help to the students of Computer Science.

 

Commerce & Management Association : For the benefit of Commerce and Business Management students, the association conducts various useful programmes. Guest lectures, Seminars, Workshops on facing competitive examinations such as BSRB/SSC/CAT/MAT etc., arranging industry visits, study tour, Inter-Collegiate Management fest etc. are some among them.

Humanities Association : This is a platform for the students of Arts faculty to perform on. The aim of the association is to enrich the knowledge bank of students.  Programmes are organized on topics related to the social, economic, political and historical significance. 

Womens' Cell : The Womens'  Cell of the college involves women students in various activities to improve their culinary skills along with academic excellence. For all-round development of the lady students, the cell organizes various activities such as gardening, cooking, interior decoration, trekking, doll making, etc. It also organizes a number of talk and discussion sessions on the burning and relevant topics of the day. 

Divya Chethana Association : Catholic students are religiously tied with Divya Chethana Assocaition. All the Christian students of the College are the de-facto members of the unit. The unit arranges daily prayer, weekly masses and masses on special occasions. It also arranges a three day annual retreat for Christian students.

 

Indian Red Cross Unit : The unit maintains a database of Social Blood Donors of the college and the public. It makes necessary arrangements when blood is required. Blood donation camps are organized at regular intervals to help the Thalassemia patients.

Alumni Association : Having realized the fact that the alumni members are still a part of the life of an educational institution, the college has an Alumni Association.  Since its inception, it has been associated with the college to extend support in the academic, non-academic and developmental activities of the College.

Parent-Teacher Association : Realising the active role of the parents of the students in the success of the institutional activities,  PTA was formed. The Association meets regularly and evaluates the activities of the college.

The P. T. A. of our College is a forum for regular interaction among Parents, Teachers and Students. The highlights among the activities of the Association are:

  1.  Assistance to poor and deserving Students
  2. Sponsorship of various activities of the College
  3. Golden Jubilee Memorial Scholarship to Toppers among the  Final Year Students of each Faculties
  4. Organizing special lectures and interactive sessions, and
  5. Publishing mbulletins on very special occasions.

K.S.O.U : The College has a Study Centre of Karnataka State Open University which provides an opportunity for the students to take up various diploma courses while pursuing their regular studies.
